Hummus: Mix. Dip. Enjoy.

I would like to introduce Hummus as the first recipe to "Dinner for Friends". Dating back to the 12th century from the hot Middle Eastern sand dunes, Hummus is an ancient appetizer containing garbanzo beans, commonly known as chick peas, and is one of my favorite legumes leading the pack with high protein, lowering risk of heart attack and cholesterol. Best of all, it takes about 7 minutes to make and it is absolutely delicious. Next time you prepare dinner for friends add Hummus to your menu. you will be pleasantly surprised how quick and easy it is to make!

Hummus

Tools Needed
Food Processor or Blender
Measuring Spoon
Measuring Cup
Paring Knife
Serving Bowl

Total time: 7-10 minutes
Yield: 3-4 servings

Ingredients
15 ounces of cooked or canned garbanzo-reserve 2-3 oz of the juice.
1 clove of garlic
2 Tablespoons of Tahini (Sesame paste)
1/8-1/4 cup Extra Virgin Olive
1 lime-juiced
a pinch of salt
Garnish: pomegranates or cilantro
Pita bread

Mix garbanzo and reserved juice, garlic, tahini, extra virgin olive oil, lime juice, and salt in a food processor or blender and pulse until the mixture is creamy. Serve in a bowl and garnish with pomegranates or cilantro. Compliment the appetizer with pita bread-my best friend and kindred spirit, Becca, loves hers toasted. If you make dinner for friends who are carb conscious, serve it with lettuce or carrot sticks.

Yum. Yum.

  1. Yummy! So this was the first time I ever made hummus! And it was so yummy! Ok, I admit, I did mess it up a bit. It turned out chunkier than I wanted, so perhaps I hadn't added enough water or I hadn't cooked the chick peas well. I was in a hurry so I soaked them for an hour or so and then cooked them for almost an hour and they were still hard, but edible, so I thought they'd blend together and become tahini-like.

Anyway it tasted good and I'm going to be making it again! Thanks so much for this!
    Keet it up!
    xoxo
